Looking for a remote job? Consider this…
From Nic @ atlas
With over a decade of experience guiding candidates through their search for new post-military careers, I’ve gained unique insight into remote job searches. Here are five crucial yet often overlooked considerations. While remote work may not be possible for every career field or appeal to everyone, this list is invaluable for those interested.
⬇️ 5 Essentials for a Remote Job Search ⬇️
Career Growth
This is a big one. When looking for a remote position, consider where the company is headquartered. If you have goals of promoting, will it require a move in the future? If staying in Georgia is a major factor but a promotion leads to NYC, it’s better to know before you accept.
Work-Life Balance
Consider how the company supports work-life balance for remote employees. The most often overlooked factor here is time zones. If you’re on Pacific time and the rest of the team is Eastern, how will this impact your daily schedule?
Technical Requirements and Support
Understand the technical requirements of the job, including the need for specific hardware or software, and whether the company provides support or stipends for home office setup. You also want to ensure you are clear on guidelines for protecting both company information and personal data.
Travel
Many remote positions require more travel than on-site roles. Get a good idea during the interview process how often you are expected to travel to corporate, to a regional office, to meet clients, etc. Don’t forget to account for how far you live from the nearest major airport. If the role requires 50% travel and the airport is 3 hours away, that windshield time adds up.
Your Boss
Does your boss work remotely and/or do they have experience leading remote employees? Even post-pandemic, many leaders have not led remote employees. Knowing whether your boss is experienced or if you'll be their first remote employee can influence your work dynamic.
Remote work can be a great lifestyle decision for many people. You can check out both remote and on-site opportunities on the atlas.vet platform.
